Suresnes
   Suresnes was the location of the 13th Congress of the socialist PSOE, notable for the election as Secretary General of Felipe González. González, representing the main groups of socialists active within Spain, thus became the dominant force in the party, overturning the "old guard" of exiled socialists in France led by Rodolfo Llopis. González's victory enabled the PSOE's strategy to be brought up to date with changes in Spanish society, which the old guard had failed to take on board. The congress also established the strategy of ruptura democrática (a clean break with Francoism) as the party's objective for the post-Franco period.
